Ujjain in Two Days – Complete Temple Itinerary
A two-day Ujjain plan: Mahakaleshwar, the corridor and Ram Ghat aarti on day one; Bhasma Aarti, Kal Bhairav, Mangalnath, Sandipani Ashram and Gadkalika on day two.
Two days is the sweet spot for Ujjain. It gives you a morning for Bhasma Aarti without sacrificing the rest of the city, and it means you are not choosing between the astrological temples and the ancient ones. This is the itinerary we actually run.
Day 1 — Mahakal and the old city
Arrive at Ujjain railway station or drive across from Indore airport, check in and freshen up. Head to Mahakaleshwar for darshan, then walk the Mahakal corridor while you are on site.
From there, Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir is close by, followed by Harsiddhi Mata Temple, one of the city's two Shakti Peeths. Close the day at Ram Ghat for the evening Shipra aarti, then dinner and an overnight stay in Ujjain.
Day 2 — Bhasma Aarti and the astrological temples
If you have passes, the day begins at 4:00 AM with Bhasma Aarti — the ritual Ujjain is known for and the single strongest reason to give the city two days rather than one. Breakfast afterwards.
Then Kal Bhairav, the guardian deity of Ujjain; Mangalnath, regarded as the birthplace of Mangal and the place for Mangal Dosh pooja; and Chintaman Ganesh, the wish-fulfilling Ganpati.
The afternoon covers Sandipani Ashram, where Krishna is said to have studied, and Gadkalika Mata Temple, the second Shakti Peeth and the shrine associated with the poet Kalidasa. Drop at the station or airport in the evening.
Why this order works
Day one keeps you in and around the old city where the temples sit close together, so you lose little time to travel. Day two ranges wider, which is easier once you have already done the busiest darshan and are not watching the clock.
Where to add a third day
