Shayan Aarti at Mahakaleshwar – The Last Aarti of the Day

Shayan Aarti closes the daily cycle at Mahakaleshwar. What it is, how attendance is arranged through the temple portal, and how we book it from abroad.

Shayan Aarti is the last of the five daily aartis at Mahakaleshwar, performed at night as the temple closes its cycle. It is quieter than Bhasma Aarti and draws a smaller crowd, which for some visitors is exactly the appeal.

Where it falls in the temple's day

The daily sequence opens with Bhasma Aarti at 4:00 AM and closes with Shayan Aarti at night, with Sandhya Aarti in the evening before it. Attending both ends of the cycle on the same day gives you a fuller sense of the temple's rhythm than a single darshan does.

Timings

As with every ritual here, the time moves with the season and is revised during Shravan, Bhadon and festivals. We check the current schedule against your dates instead of publishing a fixed time.

Arranging attendance

Shayan Aarti is listed among the temple committee's online services along with Bhasmaarti, Sheeghra Darshan, Pujan Booking and Sandhya Aarti. All of them require a login with an Indian mobile number. If you are travelling from abroad, send us your dates through the form below and we will arrange it in Ujjain.

Practical note

Because it is a late ritual, plan how you are getting back to your hotel afterwards. If we are handling your transport this is already covered; if not, it is worth arranging in advance rather than looking for an auto at night.
