There are two ways into Mahakaleshwar: the free general queue, and Sheeghra Darshan — a paid pass issued by the temple committee that routes you past it. On a busy day the difference is measured in hours.
When the free queue is fine
On an ordinary weekday morning, arriving early, the general queue moves reasonably. If you are a small group of adults with a flexible day, you may not need to pay for anything. We will say so if that is the case for your dates.
When the pass earns its cost
Mondays, the whole of Shravan, festival dates and weekends are a different proposition. Crowds at Mahakaleshwar are among the largest at any temple in India, and the committee records more than 1,50,000 visitors on busy days. In those conditions the pass is worth it — particularly if you are travelling with parents who cannot stand for long, or you have a fixed train or flight the same day.
Booking it from outside India
Sheeghra Darshan is sold through the temple's own online portal, which requires you to log in with an Indian mobile number. That rules out most NRIs. Send us your dates through the form below and our Ujjain team handles the booking locally.

Combining it with Bhasma Aarti
The two are separate arrangements. Many visitors do Bhasma Aarti on one morning and a Sheeghra Darshan visit on another, which gives you the ritual and an unhurried darshan without doing both in one exhausting day.
